It was a great finish at Yankee Stadium as the very potent Peoria Chiefs

pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Wilmington Hornets by the count of

7 to 6.

Peoria had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs.

Jim Small led off and he ripped a base-knock.  Pyburn got a great jump and

stole second easily.  Peoria continued their aggressive style with another

stolen base.  Alvin Dark stepped in and he would hit into a fielders choice

which scored a run.  Two outs later Willie Mays came up and he was walked

intentionally.  Rance Pless contributed to the rally and drew a walk to load

the bases.  Gene Stephens followed and he drew a walk giving Peoria the

victory as 26,226 happy fans celebrated wildly.  A wild affair, this game saw

the lead change 5 times.

The victory was credited to Vern Law(5-2) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing

no runs. Bob Miller(7-8) was given the loss in relief.

First baseman Vic Wertz slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Dick Donovan

pitched a complete game at Wrigley Field as the Peoria Chiefs lost a

heartbreaker to mighty Wilmington Hornets by the score of 6 to 5.

Wilmington scored the deciding run in the 9th inning.  After an out was

recorded, Jim Rivera smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 7th of the

season) resulting in a mighty exciting win for Wilmington and the 22,499 home

town fans in attendance.  This was the kind of game that many fans love as

the lead changed hands 5 times.

The victory was credited to Donovan(22-7) who went the distance, allowing 5

runs. John Crimian(12-4) was given the loss in relief.
